Using Podcasts as a Learning Strategy

Program Description

Technology continues to change how the world relates to information. And, there’s no better current example than the podcast. Podcasts, a series of audio episodes, have the power to enhance any learning and development strategy. In L&D’s pursuit to being an inclusive field and building the capacity of all individuals in an organization, then adding podcasts is a strategic must.

At UPMC, a hospital system of over 90,000 employees and 40 hospitals, we’ve incorporated podcasts as an additional layer to learning. We’re able to meet learners exactly where they are so that learning happens when it’s most needed. With over 7,000 listens since the introduction of our Lessons to Lead podcast, we’ve been able to help develop and grow our organization’s leaders outside of the traditional “classroom” environment.

In this presentation, learners will be taken through a variety of activities and discussions that will inspire them to adopt podcasts as an additional tool for their learning strategy.

Objectives

  • Assess how podcasts can be an effective learning tool in your organization
  • Create an action plan to implement a podcast as a learning strategy
  • Examine the logistics and technology of creating a podcast (using tools you probably already have!)
